Movie Reviewz: Rebel Without a Cause

Tonights review, Rebel Without a Cause Written by Stewart Stern and Directed by Nicholas Rey and Starring James Dean and Natalie Wood.

*as of tonight, I am separating the review into three sections: Story (overall cast, director, themes and problems with said items), Acting and Writing (pretty specific), and Last Thoughts (also specific)*

Story: I thought it was great. I think it was cast perfectly also, although I haven’t seen any other films with the actors (except of course, for Jim Backus. Who doesn’t know who he is?*). I have to say, the directing was great and the colors and clothes were great, but the main problem was that it happened in ONE NIGHT. I mean, Judy’s boyfriend (Buzz played by Corey Allen) dies (practicably by Dean’s hand) and in two hours she’s fawning over Jim like he’s Bambi (Wordplay)! This Plato kid thinks that Dean is his father or something, and Dean is only, Oh, I’m guessing two years older then the kid. The whole movie happened way to fast.

Acting and Writing :

James Dean was a great actor. He was cool, he was dark, he was good looking, and he was a great actor. His death still hits me now as sad. It was a great loss. I feel it greatly mirrors the death of Heath Ledger in 2008. This film was released after his death months. Off that subject, Natalie Wood and Sal Mineo were also great. As for the writing, it was solid enough, although as I said before, the story was a bit iffy.

Last Thoughts:

Well folks, This ends another review of a great movie. I liked it, and if you haven’t seen it, you should. Make sure to keep an open mind though. This is hard stuff.
